September Newsletter

Wow! Can you believe it is September already! School started last week for my oldest and then again this week for my youngest. The rest of the week has been trying to get into a schedule while the kids are gone. I've had big plans for a cleaner house, gym time and finishing up my huge stack of quilts. However, trying to budget time for each in a 2.5hr slot is seeming near impossible. Especially trying to do any work after the gym :)    But you didn't come here to listen to my scheduling problems.  I bet you just want to see pretty fabric, eh!    There's been a few new arrivals to the store over the past couple of weeks.

 

First up is the the newest of the additions:

Cheddar & Indigo from Penny Rose Studios. 

How gorgeous are these blues and golds! 

 

I'm thinking I need a vintage-y style quilt made out these delicious fabrics!

 

 

Next is Modern Paper Background by Zen Chic.

I should have gotten my act together and joined in the low-volume plus block swap hosted by my friend Lindsay of  Craft Buds, but one thing I lacked was low-volume prints. This is a perfect collection to have for any low-volume quilt. Modern Paper Background is available in all pre cuts.

 

 

Lastly, the lastest Sample Spree from Moda arrived a couple of weeks ago.

The Boy's Turn

Since my little girl picked out fabric for her new quilt last week, my boy wanted a turn at picking out fabric for his quilt, too. He also wants a fox quilt, and wanted each fox to be different. He riffled through my stash this morning and came up with this assortment:

He says he's going to stay up all night sewing it. I think it's great he's so ambitious :)

Guess I better get cutting!

Stripping Down

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this pretty little pile of freshly cut jelly strips.

I managed to get all the main pieces cut yesterday, after much wonderment and inquiry as to when I would be finished with her quilt :)

AND ... 

In case you're wondering which pattern she finally landed on - -

it's Fancy Fox by Elizabeth Hartman.

All that's missing is the background. Paisley's thinking she wants pink, purple and red, and that was narrowing it down ;). I was thinking a nice light grey or pale yellow. What color would you pick?

Digging Deep

Last week I mentioned that Paisley had gone through all the bolts in store and picked out her favorites. It was a great start to a new quilt. Today we spent the better part of the morning going through my stash bins picking out more fabrics!

After quite a bit of searching, I think we've got what she needs for her quilt, minus the background. She's still undecided on what color the background should be; and maybe more undecided on what a background is :)

After playing outside for a bit, she came, looked at the fabric spread out on the floor and said, "Are you done with my quilt yet?!"

snow day

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my grandma's post yesterday. It was heartwarming to read each of your comments. I'm sorry that I didn't reply to you individually, I've been at a loss for words. 

We woke up to quite the Spring snow storm. I'm pretty sure I have swept a good 6 inches off of my car. 

Since the snow botched all my other plans for today, my girl thought it would be a good idea to go through all the bolts of fabric and pick out her favorites. So far she's picked about a dozen from Cotton + Steels Basics. I cut a strip from each bolt, which I've been instructed is going to be a new quilt for her, and she's going to help with sewing.

Her ambition makes me smile.

I also love the lime and turquoise bits she mixed in with the pinks, purples and corals.

I wonder what she has in mind for her quilt ...

Multitasking?

I don't know if this is multitasking, or just getting distracted. 

But, I've started a new quilt, again; without finishing my last start, again. 

I was feeling inspired (and a little time-crunched) for a new little quilt, that will go to a new little guy. 

Of course, that meant drop everything and pull fabrics from my stash. 

I couldn't help myself. And, I'm not even feeling guilty about it.

I'm also finding I have a lot more orange than I thought I did. 

I may have to make a second quilt :)

But... I really should finish the other one, before I get too carried away and it gets stuffed behind the computer and forgotten about. At least I haven't forgotten about it, yet.

Progress

After taking about a week long break from my new quilt, I had some time the last couple of nights to cut the remainder of the background and sew them into units. 

The result: a happy little stack waiting to be pressed and sewn into the next step. 

I just love fabric all stacked up, with little bits of color peeking out. 

Last night as I was sewing, I was thinking that I would be able to have all the blocks put together by tomorrow, so I could start laying the blocks out. However, this morning I've decided I may have been a bit overzealous in that thought.

I'll be lucky if I can get these all pressed today, not to mention sewn together :)

Fabric Therapy

After yesterday's stress moment, I needed a little fabric therapy. 

Not only did it take my mind of things, but I also found my SD card I was looking for. Yay! 

I spent the evening ironing and trimming selvedges. 

Cutting and stacking squares.

I still have a bit of cutting to do, and need to find a bit more background fabric.

All-in-all, a great start to a new quilt, and perfect ending to some much needed therapy :)

Stressing

It's been a while since I sat down at my sewing machine.

4 1/2 weeks to be exact. 

I have a never ending list of projects I should be working on .. 

both at the sewing table and around the house. 

But, right now, I'm stressing.

Number One stress - I can't find the SD card I used for all my Christmas pictures.

I know, it sounds trivial. But, it holds some very important pictures to me; along with the only thing I sewed for the holidays. The worst part is, it's one of those i-know-i-put-it-here-where-did-it-go kind of can't find its.

SO, to help me take the stress off, I decided to play with a bit of fabric.

I pulled these 'boy colors' (as described by my kids) for my first all-solid quilt.

Now to figure out what it wants to be....

Sample Spree

Deer Season

This past winter, I designed a deer themed quilt after my brother went deer hunting for the first time and got 2! I was quite inspired by the pictures he sent me and had a quilt drawn up in a matter of a couple hours. And that's where I left it. Still. On the paper. I think about it quite often, but have not yet found that perfect fabric for it.

Until last week.

Spring Market debuted several deer themed collections. I am so excited by them all! I'm pretty sure I could make a quilt with each of them!

I haven't decided which ones I will be getting in the store. I wish I had space for them all!
