I'm sure I have mentioned before, but I used to work for Continental Airlines (which has now merged with United Airlines). I worked reservations for the first few years while employeed there. I worked on September 11, 2001. It was my scheduled day off. That is a day I will never forget. Almost as though I can recall every waking minute.
My heart aches today. I can not even imagine how or what those who were physically affected by this massacre went through, what their thoughts were, and how their lives were ended. The first thing I saw while driving up to the memorial was an enormous statue of the 3 fireman who rose the American Flag at ground zero. Such love, hope and patriotism in the midst of a terrible tragedy. I am not ashamed to say that I cry every time I see that photograph. And I cried when I saw that magnificent statue.
"Freedom was attacked this morning by a faceless coward. And, Freedom WILL be defended."
- President George W. Bush. September 11, 2001.

Very nice post. I too am remembering that day with great sadness and was touched when I came upon your post. Thanks for the pictures also, not all of us are able to get there in person.
