9/11 - A Rememberance

This day, for me, has been spent in rememberance. I felt compelled to visit the Healing Garden set up by Colonial Flag. I have never visited this spot, until today. I am glad I did. I took my children and though they don't understand the meaning, my oldest was impressed and joyful to see all the flags. Shortly after arriving the Healing Garden, I looked across the field and saw one of my good friends, and former co-worker. We were hired within 2 months of each other and ultimately laid off on the same day. It was really great to share that moment with my old friend.
I'm sure I have mentioned before, but I used to work for Continental Airlines (which has now merged with United Airlines). I worked reservations for the first few years while employeed there. I worked on September 11, 2001. It was my scheduled day off. That is a day I will never forget. Almost as though I can recall every waking minute.
My heart aches today. I can not even imagine how or what those who were physically affected by this massacre went through, what their thoughts were, and how their lives were ended. The first thing I saw while driving up to the memorial was an enormous statue of the 3 fireman who rose the American Flag at ground zero. Such love, hope and patriotism in the midst of a terrible tragedy. I am not ashamed to say that I cry every time I see that photograph. And I cried when I saw that magnificent statue.

"Freedom was attacked this morning by a faceless coward. And, Freedom WILL be defended."
- President George W. Bush. September 11, 2001.
